Questions that are often asked to NTK Integrative Systems' specialists, and the answers to them
'Is it Voll or is it Nakatani?'
The ’Prognoz’ system of electropunctural diagnostics (EPD) is an original proprietary development and the result of a deep critical analysis of its predecessors (including R.Voll and Y.Nakatani systems). The project is based on original research by NTK Integrative Systems, the open results of which have been widely covered in peer-reviewed publications. The purpose of its development is to provide EPD with a technique and equipment free from the main ‘vulnerabilities’ of extant similar designs.
'Does it work?'
It works just like any other device based on the laws of physics. Between the active and passive electrodes attached to a patient's skin, electric current of a certain amperage is passed over a certain time span. The obtained values of electrical resistance of the skin at some point on the skin are filtered to get rid of interference. These values are then used to assess the nature of the functioning of the body and/or its individual systems since there is a correlation between the state of the skin (including its electrical resistance) and the parameters of human body functioning, which has been repeatedly confirmed by various studies.
'Is it safe?'
Safety can be understood in both a narrow sense and a broad sense. In the first case, it implies a formal approval of the device for measurements on a human, that is, compliance with electrical safety standards. It goes without saying that all design solutions of ‘Prognoz’ EPD system have gone through the most stringent certification measures in the USSR, the Russian Federation, and abroad for electrical safety of the device. It is, however, less apparent and much more important to talk about the safety of the diagnostic procedure when we are dealing with biologically active points of the skin, where even the signals that do not pose a threat from the general electrical safety point of view can still cause uncontrolled changes in objects of the body associated with biologically active points. Particular attention was paid to this aspect during the scientific work done for modern design of ‘Prognoz’ EPD. As a result, devices for this EPD method use the current of specially calculated amperage in their measurements, which does not have a prolonged effect on the human body and at the same time allows registering electrical resistance of the skin with required accuracy. This is the key difference between ‘Prognoz’ EPD and the vast majority of other EPD systems. It facilitated in particular by the original design of its active electrode.
'How precise are the measurements?'
It should be mentioned right away that absolutely all measurements have error. It is crucial that the degree of instrumental error coupled with the methodology for drawing diagnostic conclusions provide the required level of results reproducibility. The design of active and passive electrodes of ‘Prognoz’ allows for measurements with fixed values of contact area and specific pressure at the contact site. And it works even in the hands of personnel with relatively little special training. This is what distinguishes ‘Prognoz’ EPD amongst other EPD systems. The specially selected current amperage makes it possible to obtain values of electrical resistance of the skin with reliable filtering of instrumental error while not inflicting pathological changes on the patient's body. It is by this reason as well that this device is positioned in the EU as providing the most reproducible EPD results.
'Is this parascience?'
Existence of points on the skin that possess anomalous electrical resistance characteristics in relation to the surrounding skin is a fact recognized by academic (official) science. ‘Prognoz’ EPD is designed to obtain the reproducible values of electrical skin resistance at these points and form a probabilistic relationship between these values and the functional state of the body. In other words, ‘Prognoz’ is a scientific tool, and the 'degree of scientificity' of its use is determined by the goals of a person handling the tool. From a philosophical point of view, it should be added that academic science is one of the ways of acquiring the truth, but not the ultimate truth itself.
'How to adopt 'Prognoz' in my practice?'
To put it somewhat grandiloquently, the philosophy of NTK Integrative Systems' operations is to work with each client individually. This, in particular, implies the creation of an exclusive diagnostic tool for the user’s practice, regardless of how unorthodox the practice is.
